BART Seeks General Counsel

A Board-appointed, statutory officer of the District, the General Counsel manages a legal department of 22 plus the work of outside counsel, and personally advises the Board of Directors, General Manager, Controller-Treasurer, Board Secretary, executive staff and department heads on a wide range of corporate, procurement, contracting, labor relations, employee relations, real estate and litigation matters.

The new General Counsel will be expected to emphasize: increased productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness; more responsive and timely service; a balance of strong advocacy with adroit negotiation of sensitive and controversial issues; a blend of rigor and clarity in work product; distinguishing legal interpretation from policy opinion.
